|Winter Living Ideas |

Changing your home interior to compliment the season is an easy way to refresh your living space, and this winter the trends reflect the outdoors with neutral, earthy tones.

Caroline Davis from popular homewares brand Dandi says “There may be some grey chilly grey skies this winter, but stay away from decorating with grey tones for the home this winter, and instead embrace winter’s earthier colour palette of browns and neutrals, to produce warm and sophisticated colour schemes for the home. Get back to the basics with colours inspired by the changing seasons.

Your home should reflect your personality, so think outside the square and mimic the fashion pieces you love to wear. Caroline says “During winter we all seem to rug up with lots of layers and warm scarves, so use these same fashion trends for your home by using lots of fabrics to create a warm and cosy interior.

Rug up your sofa with a woolly throw blanket or some pillows. Use the same principle for table settings and use lots of layers and textures. Start with a Dandi chocolate plain tablecloth, followed by a smaller printed olive branch tablecloth in the centre, or for something a little more casual use some Dandi rickrack placemats.”

Your living and dining area is the centre of your home, as it is the focal point for entertaining guests, and it doesn’t take much to create an impressive and welcoming environment.

Caroline suggests that, “you have the tablecloth and placemats set, carry on with the earthy theme and use dinnerware made from natural materials such as stoneware or bamboo, no plastics or metallics this season! Wooden accessories like Dandi’s bamboo bowls and chopping boards, not only look great with your wintery setting, they’re good for Mother Nature too.”

Unless you have an outdoor living area with suitable heating, Caroline says “a big trend this season will be to bringing the outdoors in. When you’re out on your morning walk or pottering around in the garden, keep an eye out for unusual branches or fallen leaves to use for decorating in the home. Use a few wintry branches or leaves for a dinner table centerpiece or place on smaller pieces on each individual place setting for a personalised touch.”

If you are looking for a touch of colour blue compliments the earthy tones well, Caroline says “you could pair your brown and neutral colours with blues like duckegg and wisteria. Blues hues create a feeling of calm throughout your home."

Caroline also suggests using Gumleaf Macadamia print in Wisteria Blue for a great pattern that fuses neutrals and blues together in the one design. Use a Gumleaf tablecloth with delicately folded plain dyed wisteria napkins for a formal setting, or for something more casual, make the most of a clear day and soak up the winter sun with a casual setting using rickrack placemats for an outdoor setting.
