WIG HEAD –
Injecting Australian Flair into Wig Hair
Every woman deserves to look and feel beautiful, no matter what life may throw at her. Hot on the heels of its successful UK launch, Wig Head is now giving Australian women with medically induced hairloss the opportunity to say goodbye to embarrassing off-the-shelf-wigs and hello to salon-styled locks.
Utilising the skills of the nation’s top hair experts, Wig Head was established by UK hairdressing legend, Trevor Sorbie, and is a revolutionary initiative for women experiencing hair loss as a result of alopecia or cancer treatment. Designed because hairloss needn’t equal a compromise in style, the concept involves voluntary consultations and wig-cutting services by Australia’s top hairdressers to inject flair into wig wearing. As the programme continues to grow it will boost the self-esteem of wig wearers across Australia, an integral factor in their recovery process.
Wig Head already has a portfolio of 18 Australian salons on board, ranging from local stylists to leading salons including current Hair Expo Australian Hairdresser of the Year, Brad Ngata and previous winners, Jane Wilde and Shane Henning. Stylists donate two hours a week to the worthwhile cause, providing advice on purchasing wigs and then custom-cutting them into personalised styles to provide a look unique to anything off-the-shelf. Wig Head has also teamed up with Hollywood Central to offer wigs at wholesale prices.
“Coping with illness is traumatic enough itself, but having the added stress of hair loss can be devastating,” explains Anthony Wynne-Hoelscher, Wig Head co-founder. ‘Wig Head is not simply a cut and a style, it gives wig wearers the confidence and go out and face the world - a huge step in their long road to recovery.”
The Wig Head initiative is helping to inject style into wig wearing across Australia and continually recruiting hairdressing experts to help the worthwhile cause. With the stress of hairloss significantly reduced, patients can focus their energies on their recovery - and of course showing off their transformed tresses!
