safety tips for a girls night out

A night out with the girl’s is a great way to catch up with your besties and have some fun. Here are a few safety tips to make sure you enjoy yourself…and get home safely.

Don’t Leave Drinks Unattended

Drink spiking is prevalent and can happen to anyone, anywhere. The results can be serious, both physically and emotionally.

Make sure your drink is visible at all times, it only takes a second. Don’t leave your drink unattended and if you need to go somewhere without it, make sure you only leave it with those you know you can trust. That cute boy might look innocent but it is best to finish your drink before you go anywhere.

If you are really concerned, take some cling wrap to place over your glass and drink through a straw. It might feel silly, but if your friends are doing it too it will soon become habit.

While on the topic of leaving things unattended, it may sound obvious but this also includes handbags. You might get up for a dance and think your bag will be safe but it can disappear so quickly.

Always Have Your Mobile Phone

When going out make sure you have your mobile phone with you – and it is charged and has credit. If you lose your friends or get into a sticky situation you will be glad you remembered to take it.

Look After Your Friends

When you are out, look after your friends. If someone you know looks like they could have been drugged or are in an unsafe or compromising position; step in and make sure they are ok. They will thank you for it later. Have a discussion with your friends before going out so that you are all aware of your expectations.

Getting Home Safely

If you are going home in a taxi, it is always a good idea to have a friend with you. If you are going to be alone, sit in the back seat. Call or SMS a friend with the taxi number and driver ID, and let them know once you arrive home safely.

If you feel uncomfortable before you depart, you have the right to get out and choose another driver. Be alert and aware of your surroundings.

Don’t ever let a stranger drive you home, it is much safer to catch a taxi. Most importantly, never get in a car with someone who has been drinking.

Have a good night, and remember it is better to be safe than sorry.
