Ridding yourself of winter
Spring is all about a new light, fresh beginnings, new growth and
scents. Leaving winter is not unlike releasing the shackles of heavy
nurturing and the cosiness of the couch, pushing back our shoulders
and taking in a deep breath. Our lives are constantly changing,
as do the seasons so spring is the perfect time to re-look at your
environment and breath new life into your interior.
Adding and changing accents is the easiest and most cost effective
way to bring an obvious ‘lift’ to your interior. This
season greens are showing their staying power and being seen in
many different ways. You don’t need to add too much colour,
just enough to create a statement. On your couch have a mixture
of green fabrics and sizes of cushions to create interest without
being over bearing. On your cushions include beaded contrast patters,
solid silk, printed patterns and mix with light tan and sandy cotton
and linen throws for warmth with a light touch. Feature tall, opaque,
green glass vases on your hall cabinet or on the bench in your bathroom
with beautiful hand made soaps.
If you are after a more bold interior seek shag green floor rugs
as from Italtex that you can squish your now bare toes through and
paint the wall behind the TV in lush green such as Dulux Cucmber
Crush. Mix with a couple of items of deep orange or red and you
have a cost effective and simple solution to bring a confident focus
to your room.
With the arrival of spring we tend to have our windows more open
and our furniture more exposed. Sun damage is a big killer of our
expensive items such as couches, timber furniture and carpets.
Adding a second window treatment such as E-screens as seen in this
picture, from Peter Meyer blinds, will make a difference to longevity
of your interiors. Just remember if you have a screen in the room,
such as a computer or TV, it is best to use a darker fabric as the
white screens reflect too much light and make it difficult during
the day to work or watch the screen. The answer may also come from
screens on the outside as a protection before the light hits the
windows.
Whatever you chose for spring make it confident, make it fresh
but most of make it you!
