What
kind of hair do you wear?
by Ramy
There are 3 kinds of hair types and it's important to know which
one you have in order to best pick a hairstyle for you. To find
out in which category your hair falls into, you can do one of three
things.
The first is by simply grabbing a strand of your hair. Fine hair
is very difficult to see and is very difficult to feel between your
fingers where as Coarse hair is very easy to see and feel. Medium
hair can be easily seen but won't have a very strong feel between
your fingers.
Another method is by tying a pony tail with your hair and hold
it using your thumb and index finger. If you end up forming a dime
sized circle around your hair with your fingers, then you have fine
hair, if the circle is similar to a quarter, then you have coarse
hair, and anything in between is medium.
One last method is by seeing how much time it takes to dry your
hair. If it takes less than an hour, it means you have fine or thin
hair, if it takes more than an hour, it means you have coarse hair.
Now that you know what kind of hair you have, you can more accurately
choose a hairstyle that suits your type of hair and you can also
find out how to better treat it.
If you have Fine hair, your hair is soft, shimmering, light, flat
and soft to the touch. Fine hair is also much more fragile than
other types, which is why you have to be careful especially if you
have long hair and like to get perms and apply various products
to it since the biggest problem with fine hair is to hold a style
and have volume.
This is why if you have fine hair you are probably wearing a long
hairstyle. To get the volume you want, you can try adding colour,
streaks or heat style your hair. Using volumizing products and styling
gels also helps, but try to keep it as natural as possible.
Make sure to use a gentle shampoo and conditioner and make sure
to apply it to all your hair, not just the roots. People who have
fine hair will try and add volume by either waving or rolling it.
This sometimes means resorting to chemical products that can damage
or simply kill your hair. Try going for a short blunt cut which
will create an illusion of more hair. Don't stick to long hair because
this style becomes boring and common.
The Greater majority of people have medium hair which is the easiest
to style into what you want. It has allot of body and holds a blow-dry
style or any kind of style for that matter. Medium hair is simply
more manageable and greater selections of styles are available to
you. Experiment; try something different because you can!
Coarse Hair, which is rough, heavy, dry and out of control needs
to be tamed by using effective conditioning. Wearing it long will
improve the control you will have over it since its weight will
keep it down. This is why you should stay away from Blunt cuts.
You have to be careful though, If you have allot of hair on your
head, wearing it in layers will add allot of mobility. And if you
don't, try adding highlights and lowlights, it will give it an illusion
of thickness.
Remember that there isn't much you can do about your hair, but
you can have influence over it. With this guide, you can hopefully
work with your hair to get the hairstyle that works for you and
your hair by keeping it healthy and keeping it stylish.
