FACT:
Cardiovascular activity increases the circulation of blood and lymphatic fluid (a clear body fluid resembling blood plasma, found in intercellular spaces and in the lymphatic vessels.)
When the oxygen in your blood is increased and lymph fluid is circulated the complexion of skin improves and a healthier glow is achieved.
FACT:
During exercise, sweat and sebum is produced (sebum is a natural emollient produced by the body-higher amounts are produced in avid exercisers.) Perspiration and extra sebum production on your skin can have positive and negative effects.
Perspiration contains high amounts of sodium and bacteria. Left lying on your skin, post workout, can cause negative effects on your skin such as dryness and dull skin texture. The extra sebum produced by exercise can cause acne. This is called “acne induced by exercise”.
Surprisingly, most avid exercisers and professional athletes do not realize their skin has special skin care needs! Just because a typical cleansing product is targeted to “cure acne” it does not guarantee it.
Also, many high endurance athletes, swimmers and persons who engage in outdoor sports suffer from dry skin. This can be caused by the elements of their workout conditions and the high sodium content in perspiration. With this in mind, a typical moisturizer targeted for ‘dry skin’ may not be the answer for physical fitness activists.
The best way to protect and enhance the exercisers’ skin is by applying a moisturizer that is scientifically formulated for fitness, prior to exercising.
The moisturizer protects the skin by working as a barrier from sodium and bacteria while seeping into the pores of the skin, which naturally open during exercise. Also, cleansing your skin up to a half hour post workout is a must!
Keeping in mind that during exercise the extra sebum is brought to the surface of the skin thus a special “deep pore” cleanser is needed to remove the extra production of fluids and bacteria.
If one allows sweat, bacteria and other protectors such as sun screen to lye on the skin-especially the face-it can work against obtaining the natural glow and healthy face that we are all striving to achieve!
Another thing to remember is, skin naturally produces ‘dead skin cells’; if this ‘dead skin’ layer
is not removed by proper exfoliating a few times weekly, the only result will be cleansing and moisturizing these ‘dead skin’ cells. Basically, they need to be removed-so the cleansers and moisturizers penetrate the skin!
