B&L: What do you love most about radio?
Bianca: Radio has the amazing ability to be so IMMEDIATE- TV doesn’t have that – that’s what makes it so exciting - you can change things on the spot - you can be LIVE to air - be fluid - its a very intimidating yet fabulous medium to be apart of because of that!
B&L: How do you like to spend a Saturday night?
Bianca: Honestly? Gold class cinemas or my local trendy cinemas, red wine - movie - beef nachos- or dinner with some friends and great wine. Or on a dance floor pretending I can still carve it up! (laughs).
B&L: Have you always wanted to be a celebrity?
Bianca: 3. Um...NO! Gosh I hate that word! Arghhhh! I wanted to be the BEST RADIO personality and I guess with being good at what you do ( well...sometimes I am) - it brings a level of "profile" but people who just want to be a "celebrity " make me ill!!
To be honest the whole idea of "celebrity" is a very NOW thing, I mean when I started in radio- there were no NW or WHO mags really - we didn’t have that " GOTTA BE FAMOUS" vibe - that’s come since the inception of reality TV I reckon! Everyone wants instant fame! Hehe why not I guess?!
B&L: How would you describe your fashion style?
Bianca: I’m really a moody dresser - I don’t have just one style - today I have on Sass and Bide cargos - a puma track top with a daggy old tee shirt and slip ons from Vans and a beanie!! Ha! Sexy - not.
Yesterday I had on a girly, twirly dress with my bosoms poking out of my bra and huge earrings, I was channelling an ugly version of J Lo I’m sure! I dress to suit the day - the meetings - the TV stuff that I do – I’m most at home in jeans (when they fit!), trainers and a cute tee with a naughty slogan on it (I collect slogan tees)!

B&L: What was it like working with Cindy Pan on your book “Playing Hard to Get”?
Bianca: Cindy is the most decent, wonderfully honest – kind, sexy, talented, muffin/mum/friend/co-worker all rolled into one - that girl is the SHIZZLE! She is divine - and she was sooo patient with me. I’m a bit mental at times and she just took a breath and was like "OK Bianca, lets take a step back ....." etc. She was VERY yin to my yang - in fact, if she were a man I’d ask her on a date! (laughs).
B&L: What beauty product do you always carry in your handbag?
Bianca: I don’t have just one, I have three! My Agent Provocateur perfume and my Khiels lip balm and facial cream! The best!
B&L: How did you get started in the industry?
Bianca: I started in country radio twelve years ago!! - Check out www.biancadye.com for all the gory details and great celeb pics! (Oh hold on - I said I hated that word! Damn!)
B&L: Who is your favourite artist / band right now?
Bianca: That’s sooo hard, um...... LOVE the latest ARMAND VAN HELDEN CD!! I looove it! It’s pumpy, pumpilicious! I also love chilled music like MADELEINE PEROUX - and today I’m loving KT TUNSTALLS 2nd album....
B&L: How does television compare to radio?
Bianca: TV is a fantastic place to work - problem is there is a lot of work if you are pretty and ambitious- and not that much if you have put on 10 Kg and are a bit off centre with your wit. I do a lot of bits on television where my "thoughts" are required and I’d rather do a little bit of that than a lot of crap TV (and boy is there some crap out there right now! Ouch!)
For example, ACA will ring me a lot for a comment on a pop culture topic - or Today Tonight, and lately I have been on Channel 9's 20 to 1, which I LOVE as it’s a really fun show to record. I don’t like to prepare much as I love adlibbing! It’s scary but that’s what I love - the adrenalin rush! I am actually in the process of writing my own TV show synopsis - you know what they say "if ya can’t beat em....."!!
B&L: Do you ever get nervous before a show?
Bianca: A radio show?? Nah - not really, I guess 12 years is a while but I DO get nervous before interviewing someone huge like Madonna, Russel Crowe, Robbie Williams etc - but the nerves go after a vodka (just kidding).
B&L: What’s next for Bianca Dye?
Bianca: OH BOY!!!!!!!!!!! So much to do so little taxis to get there hey?!?!
I have another great book idea - and Harper Collins want to chat - so that’s a start.... the TV show idea.. I’m going to pitch it in 2008...
TRAVEL, go and see the world and get out of Sydney headspace for a bit, I know I’ll miss radio though. It’s in my VEINS so I’ll be back!!! Probably sooner than I think! I’m up for another RADIO award in October and if I win I’ll be the first female ever to win it THREE years in a row! (Best radio music personality in Australia) which would be bloody TOPS!! But hey, if I don’t win - its no biggie – I’ve done what I set out to do, so now I need to write a whole new set of goals!
B&L: What does being a woman mean to you?
Bianca: Whoa! That’s a biggie, gosh, it means so much!
- It means not putting up with shit from men
- It means having to deal with cellulite & learning to love it
- It means smiling while your best friend tries on a size 2 bikini and looks hot...
- It means being a good person and treating people around you with dignity and respect (hey - I TRY OK!)
- It means teaching yourself that no matter what magazines say is sexy - YOU are sexy no matter what size you are or what you do for a living
- It means being able to have babies and I’m hanging out!
- It means you owe it yourself to read and learn and grow......
- It means being YOU - and not falling victim to all the bullshit the world can serve up!
